If you are on
the mailing
lists of
EscapeArtist.com,
Sovereign
Society or
International
Living, you
no doubt receive
countless
mailings on
information on
Offshore this
and Offshore
that. All of
this information
is great and and
necessary for
those
individuals
considering
living outside
of their country
of citizenship
but also with
respect to
investing
Offshore.
But exactly
what does
Offshore mean?
With respect to
investing,
Offshore means
placing assets
outside of one's
residing
Country. In the
case of U.S.
citizens, any
assets invested
outside the U.S.
would be
considered to be
Offshore. Even,
in our opinion,
investing in the
Canadian stocks
and warrants
would meet this
definition.
Same could be
said for
Canadian
citizens
investing in the
U.S. markets.
But normally
then we think of
Offshore we are
thinking of the
tax haven
islands and
other countries,
like Panama, a
choice of many.
The thought of
'tax havens', in
the minds of
many, means
incorrectly, tax
evasion.
Placing assets
outside of one's
country of
residence is a
preferred means
of Asset
Protection and
allowing for
more Asset
Diversification.
Yes, even buying
real estate
outside of your
country thus
accomplishes the
mission of Asset
Protection and
Asset
Diversification.
For some, it may
be possible to
purchase stocks,
futures,
warrants, etc.
through the use
of a foreign
brokerage firm.
In the case of
U.S. Citizens,
the opening of
individual
offshore
accounts has
either been
closed or
greatly
diminished in
the last year or
so. The offshore
banks and
brokers just
don't want to
deal with the
potential issues
and the U.S.
Government. Who
can blame them?
However, there
are some
remaining
opportunities
such as
establishing a
foreign
corporation or
foundation to
assist with your
goals.
Again, we have
no intention of
being directly
involved in
one's offshore
planning but
feel compelled
to give you some
our opinions.
